Ashley Murphree is a co-founder of Good Bones Design Build, a design-build firm in the Bay Area building high-performance, healthy homes. In this talk from the Westford Symposium, she draws on her own experience as a chronic complex illness patient to introduce the cell danger response, a framework for understanding how mitochondria, immune cells, and the building envelope all interact as layered membranes. She maps out why airtight, well-filtered homes matter more than ever, where high-performance design still leaves gaps for indoor contaminants, and takes audience questions on bridging the medical and building-science "silos" and getting occupants to actually use the smart-home tools we give them.
