Building papers, plastic building wraps and house wraps, fully adhered membranes that are vapor open and vapor closed and vapor in between, liquid applied, spray applied water resistant barriers. Gypsum sheathing, oriented strand board sheathing, plywood sheathing, fiberboard sheathing, board sheathing. Steel studs, wood studs, precast, block back up walls. Fiberglass cavity insulation, cellulose cavity insulation, low density spray foam, high density spray foam. Gypsum interior linings, magnesium oxide boards, lath and plaster. Latex paints, alkyd paints and epoxy paints. Continuous insulations rock wool, extruded polystyrene, expanded polystyrene, isocyanurates and insulated metal panels. How all of these assemblies work in all the climate zones?

Day Two

High Performance Roofs

A technical look at all of the combinations and permutations of roofs - commercial, institutional and residential. Vented and unvented. Metal decks, wood decks, concrete decks. We now have vapor diffusion venting rather than air flow venting. We have problems with open cell low density spray foam that we didn’t have back in the day….Spend a day with Dr. Joe as he goes through the history of roof venting bringing you up to speed on the problems in high performance roofs in cold climates and high performance roofs in hot climates. How to avoid the problems and how to fix them and how we got em...
